Halcyon House

Project type

Residential Architecture

Date

December 2017

Location

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

As cities develop, the question arises of how to convert underutilized or obsolete spaces for new purposes that respond to the changing conditions within the city’s social fabric. In Toronto, the demand for residential space as a result of a rapidly growing population has led to drastic changes in the city’s zoning laws, adding residential construction on sites that were never intended for this purpose. Issues often arise when converting these difficult sites for suitable residential uses.

The aim of this project is to develop a design for a single family residence on the former commercial site of 37 Bulwer Street in downtown Toronto, responding to the conditions and limitations of the site while adhering to modern standards for safety and quality of life.
